For over two decades, we have held a quiet corner of the Himalayas as a sanctuary where ancient knowledge and genuine human care converge — changing lives one guest at a time.
The name Vedanjana comes from two Sanskrit roots — Veda, meaning sacred knowledge, and Anjana, meaning to illuminate or reveal. It was this idea that guided our founders, Dr. Suresh Sharma and his wife Kamala, when they quietly opened a small Ayurvedic consultation centre on the banks of the Ganga in Rishikesh in 2002.
Dr. Sharma had trained for seventeen years under two of South India's most respected Vaidyas, spending extended periods in Kerala studying classical Panchakarma alongside his formal BAMS and MD degrees. Kamala brought a background in classical yoga, pranayama, and naturopathy. Together they envisioned a place unlike the growing wellness industry — not a spa dressed in Ayurvedic language, but a genuine healing institution.
What began with six treatment rooms and a handful of devoted guests now serves hundreds of people each year from over 40 countries. The philosophy has never changed. Only the depth of our capacity to serve it has grown.
Each pillar is a complete science. At Vedanjana, they work as one integrated system, addressing body, mind and spirit simultaneously.
The science of life — 5,000 years of clinical knowledge applied with precision. Nadi Pariksha, Prakriti analysis, Panchakarma and personalised herbal medicine form our medical foundation.
Classical Hatha and therapeutic yoga, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra and meditation — not as fitness, but as a structured discipline for nervous system regulation, Pranic balance and inner stillness.
Hydrotherapy, mud therapy, fasting protocols, sun therapy and dietary science — nature's own tools, applied methodically to stimulate the body's inherent capacity for self-repair.
Our physicians, yoga masters and therapists are not simply qualified — they are called to this work. Each carries decades of training, genuine compassion, and a personal relationship with the practices they teach.
With 28 years in classical Panchakarma and a lineage traced to the Ashtavaidya tradition of Kerala, Dr. Sharma leads all medical protocols at Vedanjana. His diagnostic precision through Nadi Pariksha alone has been described by guests as "a revelation". He holds advanced training in Kayachikitsa (internal medicine) and Rasayana therapy.
Kamala trained in classical Hatha Yoga in Mysore and studied naturopathic medicine under Dr. H.K. Bakhru in Delhi. She designs the yoga therapy and fasting protocols for all Vedanjana programmes, adapting ancient kriyas to each guest's constitution and condition. She holds an E-RYT 500 and has taught in 14 countries.
A graduate of the Government Ayurveda College, Trivandrum, Dr. Nair specialises in women's health, hormonal conditions and fertility. Her work with PCOS, endometriosis and infertility using Ayurvedic protocols has helped over 400 women — many of whom had exhausted conventional options. She also leads our pre-arrival consultations.
Dr. Suresh and Kamala Sharma open a six-room Ayurvedic centre in Rishikesh. Word spreads quietly among those seeking genuine healing, not luxury tourism.
After years of offering day treatments, Vedanjana launches its first residential Panchakarma programme — 14 and 21-day classical formats that quickly earn a reputation across India and abroad.
Kamala formally integrates naturopathic medicine into all programmes, creating what becomes Vedanjana's signature three-pillar methodology — Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy as one unified system.
Responding to increasing demand from guests with chronic conditions, we develop structured protocols for PCOS, arthritis, stress-related disorders, infertility, and more — each with measurable outcome tracking.
Vedanjana is listed among the top ten Ayurvedic retreats in Asia by Condé Nast Traveller India and receives recognition from the Ministry of AYUSH for its contribution to authentic classical Ayurveda.
We continue to deepen our medical research, mentor the next generation of Vaidyas, and hold the sacred responsibility of every guest who entrusts us with their healing.
We do not modify ancient protocols for palatability. Panchakarma is performed as the Charaka Samhita prescribes. Our treatments are medicine, not spa services.
No two treatment plans at Vedanjana are alike. Every protocol is designed from scratch around your Prakriti, Vikriti, life situation, and goals — not pre-packaged.
Our herbal medicines are sourced from certified organic farms in Kerala and the Himalayas. We are committed to sustainable sourcing and minimal environmental impact.
We track guest health outcomes systematically and are transparent about what Ayurveda can and cannot achieve. We never overpromise, and we always follow up.
