Whether cervical spondylitis sends pain into your arms or lumbar spondylitis locks your lower back each morning, Ayurveda identifies the underlying degeneration — and reverses it. Our spinal programme combines localised oil pooling, medicated enemas and classical herbal formulations for lasting structural relief.
In Ayurveda, spondylitis — whether cervical, lumbar or ankylosing — is understood as a progressive Vata-dominant condition involving drying of the Majja dhatu (nerve tissue and marrow) and depletion of Sleshaka Kapha (synovial fluid). The vertebral discs and cartilage, starved of lubrication, begin to compress and calcify. In ankylosing spondylitis, Ama (metabolic toxins) accumulate in the sacroiliac joints and spine, triggering an autoimmune inflammatory response.
The Ayurvedic approach corrects the root cause: replenishing the fluids that protect spinal structures, clearing Ama that drives inflammation, and strengthening the muscles and ligaments that support correct spinal architecture. Most guests experience significant pain reduction within 7–10 days; structural improvements are visible on imaging at follow-up scans taken 3–6 months later.
Our programme is safe alongside conventional medications including NSAIDs, DMARDs and biologics. Your physician reviews your medication list before designing the protocol.
Get Your Free AssessmentWarm medicated oil pooled inside a dough dam placed over the cervical spine — directly nourishing C3–C7 discs and nerve roots for 45 minutes per session.
The lumbar counterpart — Dashamula or Mahanarayan oil sitting warm over the lower back, penetrating intervertebral discs and reducing nerve compression.
Yogaraj Guggulu and Boswellia serrata (Shallaki) — among the most well-researched Ayurvedic anti-inflammatories, with clinical trials supporting their efficacy in spinal conditions.
Medicated enemas targeting the colon — the seat of Vata — to systematically reduce the nerve-driven pain that NSAIDs cannot fully address.
Vata-driven drying of intervertebral discs — accelerated by sedentary posture, irregular eating, poor sleep and cold, dry environments. The disc loses height and pressure builds on nerve roots.
Undigested metabolic waste depositing in the joint spaces between vertebrae — characteristic of ankylosing and inflammatory spondylitis. Requires detoxification before any nourishing treatment.
Modern sedentary lifestyle creates chronic imbalance in the paraspinal muscles — Ayurvedic therapeutic yoga corrects these patterns alongside bodywork.
Insufficient nourishment reaching the nerve tissue (Majja dhatu) — causing the characteristic radiating arm or leg pain of cervical and lumbar spondylitis respectively.
Excess Vata blocking the Sira (nerve channels) of the spine — creating the burning, tingling and numbness that anti-inflammatories manage but do not resolve.
Poor digestive fire preventing absorption of calcium, magnesium and other minerals essential for bone matrix maintenance — the silent driver of accelerated spinal degeneration.
Warm medicated oil enclosure over the cervical spine for 45 minutes. Ksheerabala or Mahanarayan oil soaks into C3–C7 discs, softens cervical muscles and reduces referred arm pain within 3–5 sessions.
Targeted relief for lumbar spondylitis and disc prolapse. Dashamula oil over L4–S1 — absorbing into vertebral bodies and the surrounding posterior ligamentous complex. Remarkable for reducing morning stiffness.
Heated herbal boluses applied along the entire spine — improving circulation to chronically compressed structures, reducing muscle spasm and delivering anti-inflammatory compounds deep into tissue.
Therapeutic purgation for ankylosing spondylitis — eliminates the Ama driving autoimmune inflammation before any oil therapy begins. Critical first step for inflammatory variants.
A course of Dashamoola Ksheera Basti (milk enema) and Sahacharadi oil Basti — nourishing Vata at its seat in the colon with direct benefit to all spinal nerve function.
A personalised therapeutic yoga sequence addressing postural correction, paraspinal strengthening and spinal decompression — prescribed by Dr Nisha Rawat (yoga therapist) in conjunction with the physician.
